WILLOWS DORM ROOM
Willow Rosenberg was sitting at the dorms writing a paper she had due in the end of the week. She was almost done, when she heard a knock on the door. Outside it Buffy was standing, holding a little child in her arms.
- Hey, Buffy, Willow said. - I didn't expect you to come here this early.
- Well, I'm not going back to school yet, but that doesn't have to mean that I can't hang out with you...
- How are you?
- I'm fine, a little tired though.
- Well, I can certainly understand it.., Willow said gesturing to the little child.
- She's not waking me up as much anymore... I think she might be calming down, Buffy said, putting the little one down.
- Hey there, Aly, Willow said. - You're so adorable...
- As usual, Buffy said smiling.
- Aunt Willow, Aly said, giving Willow a hug.
- Come here squirt, Willow said, picking her up, making Aly laugh.
Buffy entered the dorms and sat down on her bed. It was still her bed, but she wasn't going back to school. She couldn't afford it. And she also wanted to spend time with her little girl.
- You said she's calming down? I think she's more of a firecracker then she was last time you were here.
- Well, she's calmer at nights, but in the days...
- I get it. But if she's like this, you must need a day off sometimes...
- You don't get a day off from motherhood.
- Well, I can always watch her sometimes. I love spending time with her.
- I know you do, and I'll take your offer some other day. Do you have a lot to do?
- Nope, just a paper and I'm almost done.
- Dancing, Aly said, pointing towards the CD-player.
- Do you mind, Buffy asked Willow.
- Not at all, I can concentrate with music on.
Buffy turned on the radio and in that minute there came a knock on the door. Since Willow had her hands full, Buffy went to open the door. She smiled to find out who was on the other side of the door.
- Cordelia, she said, giving the girl a hug. - Hey, how are you?
- I'm fine, I just wanted to see how you were all doing here back in Sunnyhell.
- Come in, she said, gesturing.
- Dancing, mommy, Aly said, pulling her arm.
- All right, Buffy said and picked Aly up and twirled her around.
- Who's that, Cordy asked, pointing at Aly.
- Cordy, meet my daughter Aly and Aly, this is my friend Cordelia.
- Your daughter?
- Yeah. Weird isn't it?
- I must say so. Who's the dad?
- Angel.
This was an answer Cordelia didn't expect. She choked on the gum she had been chewing.
- You mean soulful, brooding, creature of the night, your ex-boyfriend Angel?
- No, Angel the talking dog. What do you think, Buffy said, sarcastically.
- But how?
- I don't know how, but among all the explanations I've cooked up, that's the one I've chosen to believe. There hasn't been anyone else that could be the dad and she looks a lot like Angel.
- Why haven't you told him?
- Oh yeah, calling him and just saying: "Oh by the way, you don't remember sleeping with me around thanksgiving? Oh you don't? Oh well. it was just a theory."
Just then she had a chill down her spine, but shook it off. She didn't know at exact that moment, her Angel and two other guys was spying at them through the window.
EARLIER THAT SAME DAY
- Bye Angel, Cordelia said. - I'm going to Sunnyhell.
- Ok, he said, not looking up.
- By the way, the Oracles wants to talk to you, they used painful migraine vision way to tell you, so tell them they owe me 5 $, for the painkillers and if not I want a tall, rich, handsome and interesting man for Christmas.
Before Angel could laugh at her joke, she had left. He was now alone and somehow he didn't like it too much. He closed the book, where Buffys picture were lying in and decided to take the tunnels to the Oracles as he didn't want to become crispy on the outside. He didn't know if the gift-thing worked with them sending for him, but he thought he'd be on the safe side and took with him a crystal vase he just had laying around.
AT THE ORACLES
- What have you brought us, the female oracle asked.
- A crystal vase, he said. - Handing it to her.
- I like it.
- So what did you want, he asked.
- You've been serving us very well and we thought we'd give you something in return. You get three choices. Choose wisely, as this is the only gift you'll deserve. You once gave up your humanity and that is one of the things we're offering you.
- Really? That's my biggest wish.
- Calm down, and hear us out before you choose. You also once asked us to return the life of your friend. That's also a thing we offer.
- I can choose between them?
- And the third thing I know you've always wanted is to get your family back. That's the third thing we offer. You can only choose between those three and only one of them. You'll never get a chance again after you choose. You choose humanity, you can never go back as a vampire, but you can never see your friend or your family ever again. If you choose your friend, you can never become human and there is no chance of seeing your family again. If you choose your family, you can forget becoming human or have your friend back.
- It's a hard choice.
- There's no doubt about this, warrior. But choices are our most difficult challenges.
He thought long and hard and it took a lot of time before he was ready to say his answer.
- I choose Doyle, he said.
- But what about humanity, the thing you wanted most of all?
- Back there, I should have died, not Doyle and it's not me, who should live now. There is no reason for me to become human. Buffy is doing good on her own and I can't ever have her back and if I can't have her, the human life is worth nothing to me.
- But what about your family?
- That was also a hard thing, but they are not from this time. And I'm only selfish to be wanting them back. I killed them and I can't ever make that right, but I'm the only to gain from it. With Doyle back, Cordelia won't have to have the visions and the two of them can be happy together.
- Very well, the male Oracle said, who had been standing a little in the back.
He gave a sign.
- Angel, man. You're too darn noble.
- Doyle?
- Yeah, who'd you think it'd be? Santa Clause?
- Great to see you.
- You too man, but hey, where's Cordy? Is she seeing anyone?
- No, but she did say she wanted a man for Christmas. Looks to me that she's gonna get her wish.
- Hey, thanks man. You don't know how this means for me.
They kept talking that they didn't realize that they where still inside.
- You did take a noble choice.
- Why are we still here?
- Because, as I said. Choices are the most difficult challenges a warrior can meet and that challenge you passed. You are free.
- What..?
Angel fell to the ground as his limbs got weaker and his breath returned, but then he also realized that he'd only got weaker for one moment, before all of his strength returned.
- I'm alive. and strong?
- We wouldn't want to take your weapon away in the world you're living in. It's now up to you to continue your work or not, but you are able to if you want.
- Thank you.
- Do not thank us yet, as we still have one more word to say. Instead of returning your old family, we'll give you a chance for a new one.
- What do you mean?
- She'll remember. Tonight, in a dream, her memory will return. We suggest you'll be there. Farewell now warrior.
- But.
He and Doyle suddenly stood outside the gate.
- So that's how they're living. I've always wondered, Doyle said.
- Yeah. It's very nice.
LATER AT ANGELS INVESTIGATIONS
Angel and Doyle had been talking all the way back to the investigations, about how Cordelia had taken having the visions. They had also talked about Doyles choice about sacrificing his life, which was his moment of nobility. They were a little surprised, when they met Oz there.
- Oz?
- Angel
- Been here long?
- Five minutes or so...
- Gonna stay long?
- Just passing through.
Doyle looked from one to the other.
- And I ask again... Do you always do this?
- Guess we do, Oz just said.
- That's us, Angel answered.
- You walked in from the daylight?
- I'm human.
- Cool. Going to Sunnydale?
- Yeah.
- Mind if I tag along?
- No.
BACK AT WILLOWS DORM ROOM
The girls had a lot of fun, playing with Aly. The little girl loved to dance and so did they. Buffy almost squealed when "The boy is mine" came on the radio.
- I've got this idea about the chorus.
- And what's that?
- Wait and see.
She was silent through the whole verse, but as the chorus started, she too got up to sing.
- Angel is mine.
You need to give him up.
Had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
Angel is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
He belongs to me.
Angel is mine.
The other girls laughed and clapped as Buffy bowed for the applause.
- Come on Willow, your turn.
- All right, she said, getting up of the chair.
- Oz is mine.
You need to give him up.
Had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
Oz is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
He belongs to me.
Oz is mine.
This time the chorus came double so Cordy jumped up and continued.
- Doyle is mine.
You need to give him up.
Had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
Doyle is mine.
I'm sorry that you,
seem to be confused.
He belongs to me.
Doyle is mine.
The girls just sat down and laughed, except for Aly, who was jumping up and down of joy. She loved to hear her mommy sing. Buffy bent down and held her arms out and Aly ran right into them.
- Mommy, she suddenly asked. - What'd you want most?
- Well.., she started. - That would be that mommy could be with your daddy. You see, he loves you, but he has a problem, that does so that he can't be with us...
- Does he want to?
- What? Be with us? Yeah, more than anything...
Angel was melting standing outside the window hearing this. He never even knew he had a daughter. The little girl was absolutely beautiful. She looked like the perfect mix of him and Buffy. He knew she was gonna grow up to be a heartbreaker. And he felt proud over that he had managed to create such a thing, purely out of love...
- Buffy, can you stop with the sappy?
- I'm sorry. It's just that I can totally see him in her.
- How about you describe the perfect reunion, Willow said, curiously.
- Weeell, I think it would be getting tricked into coming somewhere and then, when I got there, he'd be on stage, singing a love-song to me, and then he'd ask me to dance...
- Oh, yeah... I think that would be perfect, Willow and Cordelia said in unison.
- Of course, the curse-problem would have to be gone, even though I now would only settle for him...
Cordelia and Willow were cocking their eye brows. Buffy smiled and threw a pillow at them both. Outside, the guys had heard enough. They walked away from the window, ready to make a dream come true...
THE NEXT DAY
Buffy woke up from this wonderful dream. She had dreamt about a perfect day on Thanksgiving. A day that could explain Alys existence. She and Angel had been happy and they had been happy in a million different ways. They had spent the day in bed, together. Although the dream had ended badly, she couldn't help, but thinking about the good parts.
Shaking her head, wondering if this really had happened, she noticed a note lying on her bedside table. She unfolded it and read the text. "Search your heart, search your soul and when you go to the Bronze, you'll search no more..."? She didn't understand anything. Who'd put this there? Was this something Willow and Cordelia had done? But if they had, how on earth had they managed to come in, through her window, which was the only thing open and then go out, without waking her?
She walked over to Willows at once, after giving Aly breakfast and getting her dressed. Cordelia had been staying there. She knew that. Willow opened the door. The first thing Buffy did was showing her the note.
- Very clever, how did you manage to get it to my beside table..? I'm impressed.
Willow looked puzzled.
- What are you talking about? Bedside table?
- Willow, I do remember the talk we all had last night about the perfect reunion. What have you been planning behind my back? An early birthday party?
- Buffy, I still don't get it.
- Don't think I'm not on to your and Cordelias game... I must say that the note was very clever. Can you tell me how you managed to get it inside my place?
- Buffy, I don't get what you're talking about. I thought you made these note for me and Cordelia...
- What?
Willow showed Buffy two notes, in two different handwritings than the one Buffy had gotten. On Willows note "Look what has happened with just one kiss, I never knew that I could be in love like this. It happens to be true, come to the Bronze, I only wanna be with you..." was written. On Cordelias she read "But my love is all I have to give, come to the Bronze, or I don't think I could live. I wish I could give the world to you, but love is all I have to give...". This she recognized. It was picked out from a love-song and had just been rewritten a little. That was as far as they could understand. After thinking a whole day, nobody had gotten any closer. So they decided to do as the notes said and got dressed up and walked to the Bronze.
What was weird, was that it was completely empty. They didn't get it. A song started to play, but there was nobody there. And then a familiar voice started to sing.
"Look into my eyes,
you will see,
what you mean to me.
Search your heart,
search your soul,
and when you find me there,
you'll search no more.
Don't tell me
it's not worth waiting for,
You can't tell me
it's not worth dying for.
You know it's true
everything I do,
I do it for you."
Buffy felt that she was gonna faint. In front of her, the man she loved had appeared. And he was singing to her, so beautifully... She felt like crying, there she stood. She looked at the others, believing they had been in on it all the time. He continued to sing for her.
Look into your heart,
you will find,
there's nothing there to hide.
So take me as I am,
take my life,
I'd give it up,
I would sacrifice.
Don't tell me
it's not worth waiting for,
I can't help it,
there's nothing I want more.
You know it's true
everything I do,
I do it for you.
There's no love,
like your love,
and no other,
could give more love.
There's no way,
unless your there, all the time,
all the way, yeah...
Oh you can't tell me,
it's not worth trying for,
I can't help it,
there's nothing I want more.
Yeah I would fight for you,
I'd lie for you,
walk the wire for you,
yeah, I'd die for you.
You know it's true,
everything I do,
ooh, oh,
I do it for you..."
Buffy ran toward him, throwing herself into his arms. He had them open and caught her. Then he gave her the kiss, he had been longing to give her fore a long time. So this was what the note had meant. She had seen the song lyric in it, but not remembering where it had been from. He placed her hand on his chest. She felt the heart beating.
- You were right, he suddenly said.
- About what?
- Aly is ours...
- How'd you, she asked in a whisper.
- I spied on you through the window...
- What..?
- Do you wanna dance, he suddenly asked, as a new song started.
She didn't get the chance to say anything, before she had been dragged on to the dance floor. This time a new voice started a new song.
"I don't know what it is that makes me
love you so,
I only know I never wanna let you go,
cause you started something, can't you see,
that ever since we met, you've had a hold on me.
It happens to be true, I only wanna be with you.
It doesn't matter where you go or what you do,
I wanna spend each moment of my day with you,
look what has happened, with just one kiss.
I never knew that I could be in love like this.
It's crazy, but it's true, I only wanna be with you..."
This time it was time for Willow to melt, as she saw Oz going on the stage, with a mike in his hand. Cordelia had to have been in on it. The things she'd heard was wrong. She was a very good actress, when she needed to...
"You stopped and smiled at me,
asked me if I cared to dance,
I fell into your open arms,
and I didn't stand a chance,
now listen, honey.
I just wanna be beside you everywhere,
as long as we're together, honey, I don't care.
Cause you started something, can't you see,
that ever since we met, you've had a hold on me.
No matter what you do, I only wanna be with you..."
Willow didn't manage to say a word, before Oz dragged her onto the dance floor and kissed her. She felt a little sorry for Cordelia, who wouldn't get her man back, as he was dead, but how wrong she was, cause now a third song started up...
I don't know what he does to make you cry,
but I'll be there to make you smile.
I don't have, a fancy car,
to get to you, I'd walk thousand miles.
I don't care if he buys you nice things.
Does his gifts come from the heart - I don't know...
but if you were my girl...
I'd make it so we'd never be apart.
But my love is all I have to give,
without you I don't think I can live,
I wish I could give the world to you... but
love is all I have to give..."
Cordelia felt like crying, when she saw Doyle coming towards her. She couldn't say anything. She wanted to be everywhere at once, but her body held her there, in front of this wonderful man, who pulled her into his arms and sang to her, while the three couples danced...
"When you talk - does it seem like he's
not
even listening to the words you say?
That's okay babe, just tell me your problems,
I'll try my best to kiss them all away...
Does he leave, when you need him the most?
Does his friends get all your time?
Baby please... I'm on my knees
praying for the day that you'll be mine!!
But my love is all I have to give,
without you I don't think I can live,
I wish I could give the world to you... but
love is all I have to give...
To you... Hey girl, I don't want you to cry no
more - inside
All the money in the world could never add up to all the love
I have inside... I love you.
And I will give it to you
All I can give, all I can give
Everything I have is for you
But love is all I have to give.
But my love is all I have to give,
without you I don't think I can live,
I wish I could give the world to you... but
love is all I have to give... to you..."
And as a new song started, this by original artist, the three couples danced together, knowing that they'll never be alone again...
END.
