A New Assignment
Author notes: Ok,
I know that I didn't really say I was making this a series, but I really
want to continue the Destiny chronicles. I'm calling my series, "Destiny's
Wake'. Which is supposed to be the explanation of why I didn't have that
big battle with the Falandroid demons, and a continuation of the B/A fluff.
By the way Buffy and Angel are engaged a she is pregnant, and Destiny has
cameos throughout the series.
Rating: PG-13
(I hope, if you watch the show, you can read this, I swear it ain't the
bad [look at my bad grammar, hee hee])
Summery: Buffy
and Angel's relationship has started to heat up again after their reunion,
and we can all sense 'what will happen now!' Read and find out. Hee hee,
I'm evil.
"No, it's a surprise." Buffy told her. We all know what the big surprise is (well if you read the a/n you will).
"Does it have to do with Angel?" Willow asked. That has to be it she thought.
"Maybe." Buffy smiled dreamily.
"I knew it. You guys are back together! I'm pure genius. That is so cool."
"Yeah."
Willow frowned, "How did you get him to get over the whole 'leaving for you own good' thing?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Buffy said.
"I've lived on the hellmouth longer then you have, try me." she replied.
"Fine. You remember that girl I was supposed to look into for Giles?" Willow nodded. "Well, she's my daughter." Willow gasped.
"That's so...wait...huh?" For once in her life Willow was completely without a clue.
"She traveled back through time to stop some big battle from happening, but I think she was really sent back to reunite me and Angel, because there never really was a big battle." she wrinkled her nose for a second. "I guess the Powers wanted me to get pregnant." then she caught herself, throwing her hand over her mouth, she slipped.
Willow's eyes widened to the size of saucers. "What?!" she cried, in her willow-very-excited way. "Oh my God! Congratulations!" she pulled her friend into a tight hug.
"Thanks, Will." she said hugging her friend back. "I'll tell you it came as a big surprise at first, but when you think about it, we never really had this kind of thing to consider."
"Yeah, well that's understandable because Angel wasn't able to have children before." Willow said, and they continued walking. "So that means Destiny is here again?" she joked.
"Very funny, Will. But you are right. I mean, Destiny was mine and Angel's daughter, so it fits." she said.
"That's so cool. But it's too bad you already know what she looks like."
"That's not a terrible thing, I mean I admit that it's exciting watching your child grow and change, but now I can be excited about how much she's getting to be like the age I already saw her." she paused, "Did that make sense?" she said glancing at Willow.
"Your rambling. Is this the familiar 'missing-Angel' syndrom?" she asked her best friend.
"Maybe. He is going to be here tomorrow night. I just, miss him." she looked confused. "It's like I really need him to be here for some reason that I can't explain."
"Uh oh, do you think that something will happen?" Willow started to panic.
"I don't know. Maybe I should talk to Giles, see if there's any big bad on the way." they pivoted and started out of the cemetery.
"So when are you going to tell Giles and everyone else about your pregnancy?" Willow looked over at her friend, she pitied her because if her mom found out about it, she would murder her, in theory of course.
"I was thinking that Angel and I can tell everyone together." she smiled proudly. "Mom is totally going to flip. You know in a good way."
"How can you be so sure?" Willow asked.
"Well because she said to me a thousand times, that I need to have a baby so she can be a grandma." she giggled. "I hope she was serious."
Willow laughed along with
her as they walked through the gate of the Sunnydale Memorial Cemetery.
"Giles?" Buffy called. "Are you here?" of course he's here she thought to herself. Willow went of and browsed around the new shipment of ritual critters. "Anya. Where's Giles?" she asked the 'new employee'.
"Oh, he's back there." she gestured to Buffy's training room. "He said if you stop buy say 'go on in'." she gave a smile and took cash from a customer.
"Ok," Buffy said and headed toward to back room. When she got there, Giles was polishing the bar thing. "Hey." she greeted her watcher.
"Oh, Buffy, excellent. I was hoping that you'd stop by. Now I want you do start with the punching bag and I'll be back in a moment." He walked by her toward to door.
"Aye aye." she acknowledged
and pulled her duffel bag from a shelf and walked into the bathroom to
change. When she got out she was ready and raren to go. She started to
punch the punching bag that hung from the ceiling, after a while she said,
"Needs music." she said and turned on the CD player. B4-4 filled the room.
"Ah better," she liked the song Go Go, then she got back to kicking the
crap out of the poor defenseless punching bag.
"I'm going to Sunnydale," then he grabbed his coat, and walked toward the door.
"Hold it, Roadrunner, what's the deal." Cordy asked. He sighed and turned to face her. "What's with the 'I get a vacation to see my honey' crap? You'll see her tomorrow. Just because you're a dada now, doesn't mean you don't have a job to do."
"Cordelia..." he said impatiently. He didn't have time for this. He felt like he need to be in Sunnydale for some reason.
"No, you're staying here. I might have a vision and you'll be off sucking face with Buffy." she was annoyed, he could tell that much from her face.
"Cordy, something's going down I can feel it. If you have a vision call me at Buffy's number on the speed dial." then he turned around and started walking again.
"Ring, Ring!" She called, as she collapsed to the floor holding her head.
"Cordelia!" he caught her just in time. Vampy strength and speed coming in handy. She screamed at the pain and when it was over he said, "What did you see?" he asked.
"Um...Buffy in a hospital bed. I heard a heartbeat, not hers, beating then...stopping." she looked at Angel, his face showing pure panic.
"Here." he grabbed the bottle
of pain killers and a glass of water they always kept handy, and handed
them to her. "I guess I have a reason to go to Sunnydale after all." and
he raced out the door.
"I'll read up on any prophecies, but I don't think you should worry about this, Buffy. It might be nerves fromseeing Angel again." she suppressed a smile at the mentioning of his name.
"Maybe." she replied, playing it cool, then frowned remembering her dream she had when she got home from LA. "Giles, I had a dream last night, and it disturbed me. I was lying in a hospital bed with tubes and stuff all around me. There was a baby sleeping in a small bed beside me, with heart monitors, too. The beeping got louder and faster, then stopped, and I woke up." Giles was staring at her.
"You don't think..."
"I am. I haven't told you this part of the story with that girl. She's my daughter. She was sent from the future to stop some big war from happening, but the war never happened, so I think it was for a different purpose. She made Angel human." she glanced up at Giles again, he was watching her intently, she cleared her throat, "Angel kept all his powers and we kinda ended up in bed. About a week ago Angel asked me to marry him, and I found out I was pregnant." she looked down at the floor.
"Good heavens." he exclaimed, "Well, congratulations. But this dream, you say the child's heart stopped?"
"Yeah." she nodded.
"We need to call Angel." he said turning.
"I'm here, and I heard everything, so no need to explain." he walked over to Buffy.
"Angel." she smiled and he pulled her to him, her smile disappeared and she started to cry softly. "She might die, Angel. Our baby might die. I don't want to loose her." she cried into his shirt.
"Shh. I won't let anything happen to you or the baby." he said, trying to soothe her.
"Do you want me to call the hospital, I could make an appointment for an ultrasound." Giles volunteered.
"Thanks." Angel agreed. When he was gone, Buffy raised her head off Angel's chest and looked up at him. "Hey. I missed you." he said, caressing her cheek gently, smoothing again the tears.
"I missed you, too." she smiled, and leaned toward him for a kiss, he was all to willing to return. The simple kiss turned into a full fledged make out session. While they were lost in their own little happy place, Giles returned.
He cleared his throat loud enough so they would get him point. They broke away looking sheepishly at him. "Before you two mumble apologies, your appointment is in two hours at Sunnydale General Hospital." Then he turned around and left the two lovers to their business.
"Well two hours." she turned back to him, "Now, where were we?" she asked playfully.
"Right about here." he said capturing her lips is a fiery kiss. He picked her up and leaned her against the nearest wall, as his kisses moved to her neck she spoke.
"I don't think here is a good place to do this." her breath labored. He mumbled something that sounded like 'why not'. "because, anyone could walk in on us, lets go to my dorm room. She had requested her own room for these exact circumstances.
He lifted him head up to face her, "Yea, good idea." he said, giving her one more passionate kiss, and waited at she tried in vain to straighten her clothes and fix her mussed hair.
When she was done she gazed
up at him with hunger in her eyes, he met her gaze and they started to
gravitate towards each other. They broke out of their daze and simultaneously
said, "Hurry." and they rushed out the door of her training room.
"You have done well, darling." Buffy complimented her daughter. "You have stopped the Valentines Curse. Your father and I are very proud of you."
"Thank you, Mother. It was really hard seeing you...them...past you, not together. It kinda creeped me out. You didn't tell me that you guys were so distant." Destiny questioned her mother.
"I try to forget about our past. It was really hard on us." she looked down at the jewelry box she held in her hand. "I have something I want to give you." she opened it. It was a beautiful ring. It was gold and had twenty-five small diamonds surrounding a very beautiful iridescent pearl, the pearls colors seemed to swirl around like they were trapped in the shell.
Destiny took the ring from her mothers fingers, "It's gorgeous, mother. Where did you get it?" she held it, admiring the engravings of flowers along the gold band.
"It's a Glidonian Stone. It will allow you to travel back to the year 2000 to keep an eye on mine and Angel's past selves. But once they reach the year 2001 you follow them. All the way up until now. You act at their guardian angel." she smiled at her daughter.
"Assignment number two. I won't fail you." and she slipped the ring on her left ring finger. "How does it work?" she asked.
"You just turn it on you finger. Turn it to the left to take you back it time, to the right to bring you back to the future. Pretty straight forward."
"How do I know when they need my help?" she watched at her mother got up off her wooden chair to put the box away.
"See the colors?" Destiny nodded, "Those tell you. Red means emergency, purple means something happened but it isn't life threatening, like if they have an argument or something and they just need guidance, the way it is right now means, they don't need any help at all at the moment." she walked up to her daughter.
"So basically what you're saying is I need to watch them and make sure they don't do anything stupid. Like, let's say...brake up?" Buffy nodded. "Okay, got it covered, daughter-of-a-higher-being's honor," she said with a smile.
"Honey, there are forces out there that are trying to stop you birth. You are what will bring the ultimate forces of darkness to their knees when you come of age. This is a very serious assignment." she hugged her daughter and a tear slipped down her cheek.
"Don't worry mother, I won't let anything happen that will let Hell win."
"Try to bring them through this and stay safe, I almost lost you once, I won't risk losing you again." she said recalling a battle that almost killed her dearest and only daughter.
Destiny was about to say something when the ring started glowing a faint red color. "Uh oh."
"Don't worry, honey, it's only life really bad when the color is bright red. But go to them, but stay invisible. To do that tell the pearl that you want to remain unseen."
"Okay. I better be going then." she hugged her mother once more then started to walk toward her parent's bedroom door.
"Be careful, sweetie." she called after her.
"I will." turning the ring,
she disappeared.
"Summers?" called the nurse.
"Yeah, coming." she put down the magazine she was leafing through.
"Will you follow me please?" she turned and started to walk down the hospital corridor, Buffy and Angel had to practically run to catch up. They rounded a corner and approached a door that said 'ULTRASOUND' on it. Buffy tensed, gripping Angel's hand tighter, if he didn't have his vampire strength she would have broke his hand.
"Relax," he whispered to her, "we'll be fine." he caressed the back of her hand with his thumb, as they follow the nurse into the room.
The lady picked up a hospital gown and handed it to Buffy, "Change into this and I'll be back in five minutes." he said hastily, and sped out the door.
"Okay, yet again I have to change into one of these gowns out of my worst fashion nightmare." she lay it on the bed and took off her shirt and slipped on the gown, unzipped her skirt and put it over the back on the chair along with her other clothes and undergarments. She turned around to face a very dazed Angel, smiling she said, "So, what do you think. Do I look totally nondesirable or what?"
"It's a total impossibility for you to be nondesirable, if that's even a word." he advanced on her with one of his trade-mark half-smiles that always made her knees turn into jell-o. Their gazes locked, once they were close enough to kiss, they did. Not just a mere kiss, this was a major make out session. He started to kiss her neck all thoughts vacant from his mind, except Buffy of course.
"As much as I hate to stop this, we are in a hospital here." she said even though mind, body and soul was screaming for more.
"Right." he agreed, "we'll continue this later." he gave to another lop sided grin, and another sweet kiss on the lips. That was when the nurse came back.
"Good, you're all ready." she said, not caring that the patient and her husband (that's what she thinks he is, but they are engaged, so I guess that's allowed. *s*). "Can you hop up on that bed for me please?" she said and took out a tube that looked like a toothpaste thing, and activated the ultrasound machine. As it fired up she walked over to Buffy, "Try to relax, dear." she told her and undid the button up opening in the hospital gown that was specifically made of an ultrasound. Once Buffy's stomach was exposed she turned to Angel who was standing on the other side of the bed, with his hand caught it Buffy's grasp. "Okay." she opened the tube and squirted the cold substance onto Buffy's abdomen. "Newlyweds?" she asked.
"Engaged, one month." Angel answered.
"I have a few questions to ask you while the machine is warming up."Buffy nodded. "When was the baby conceive?"
"One week before we got engaged, somewhere around there." Buffy answered.
"Any STD's?"
"No. That goes for the both of us." she said, a but uncomfortable by the questions she was asking.
"Alcohol or drugs?"
"No."
"Any unusual pain you've been experiencing?"
"No."
"Any questions you want to doctor to answer?"
"None that I want to tell you." Buffy answered.
"Okay, the doctor will be with you shortly." she huffed, and left the room.
"I don't like her." Angel confessed.
"I don't either, but she knows what she's doing." she said. She pulled him to her for a kiss, it would have gotten deeper, but the doctor came in before it could, Angel quickly stood up straight.
"Good morning. I say that because it twelve o' five." he put the clipboard on the little table by the bed. "Okay, without further ado, let's have a look at your baby." He picked up the paddle thingy and placed it on the goopy green stuff the nurse had put on her, and circled it around. "About a month along I see." he observed.
"Yeah. I s everything okay?" Buffy asked, getting a little worried and anxious.
"Yup. Everything is moving along quite nicely, very strong heartbeat. But what can I tell you, "he pressed a button on the control panel, "you have to hear for yourself." he said as baby-Destiny's heartbeat filled their ears.
When Buffy and Angel heard the beautiful sound of their baby's heartbeat, a tear ran down each of their cheeks. They smile at each other.
Newlyweds thought the doctor.
As soon as they were through the door Angel swoop Buffy into his arms and kissed her fiercely, the kiss was gladly returned by her with equal ferocity. "I love you." he sighed out.
"I love you, too." she answered
and they fell back onto her bed.
On to Loving You
