I lay in my bed and stare down at me. Quickly I close my eyes and try to ignore
that I look like a cow.
A very fat, big, ugly cow.
Angel of course says I look beautiful. His words were 'you're blossoming with the
new life that grows inside of you'. He's so sweet, but he cannot fool me.
I look like a cow.
I open my eyes again, but I refuse to look at my ugliness and so I turn and smile
by the sight of my husband sleeping peacefully beside me. He, for a change, does
look beautiful.
An ugly, fat woman and her gorgeous husband. What a combination!
But he loves me and I love him and don't they say that love is blind and most importantly this is only temporary - hopefully.
The same moment he opens his eyes and his lips curve into a smile: "Good Morning
my love."
I lean to him and slightly brush his mouth with mine. Immediately his arm encircles my neck and he pulls me closer, deepening the kiss in the process. I
moan, this feels so good. And it's all we can do now because Dr. Bradshaw has forbidden us to have sex now. So Riley is interfering with my sex-life as well
now. I know, I know that's heavily unfair, but can you imagine how frustrating it
is, laying beside a hot and sexy husband and all you can do is touching him.
Dammit!
He pulls back and watches me for a moment: "A penny for your thoughts," he says.
"It's not worth it," I reply with a smile. "Actually," I blush, "I was thinking that I want to make love to you." I sight.
He grins: "We will. Soon. Be a little bit patient Buffy. You're almost there."
"Yeah," I sigh again. "You're right. But I would endure this much better if ..." I don't finish the sentence but of course he knows.
"You would be frustrated too. You just try to find someone to blame for it and Riley is right at hand." He strokes my cheek. "The moment you'll hold the baby
in your arms you'll realise it was worth it." Suddenly he grins wickedly: "And then
we can try to make another one."
"Oh yeah," I breath happily. "I would love that." Excitement fills my thoughts, Angel's baby! I will have his baby, soon!
"What will you do today?," he asks me rolling back on his back.
"Besides dreaming about making another baby with you," I shoot him a glance and see he's grinning too. "I'm meeting Willow for lunch. A little bit girl
talk," I inform him. He nods, then he rises and gets up. Cordy and Wesley are waiting for him.
"Buffy," Willow greets me smiling.
I meet her at the table in the little restaurant we will have lunch in. "Hi Will," I greet back. "It's hot today," I say wiping my forehead.
"Yeah," she agrees. "It's the Californian summer. Now, how are you?"
"Good. I mean the pregnancy is okay. Just the fact that I'm looking fat and ugly
is very disturbing and that I have to thank Riley for it." Instantly I feel sorry
for saying this, although I mean it, and sigh.
"Do you see him often?," she wants to know.
Before I can answer the waitress approaches our table and we order some salad and
our drinks. When she leaves again I look at Willow: "Yeah, well. He's stopped calling me all the time which is a relief. I think he was pretty shocked by my
outburst two months ago." I grin. This is unfair too, but I can't help it. "He went to all the ultrasounds with us. Fortunately Angel was with me each time. To
hold my hand and to prevent me from killing Riley for his excitement. 'Look that's our daugter's head' or 'oh, such a nice little foot'," I roll my eyes and
Willow gives me a sympathetic look.
"That must be very strange," she says after a while. "Laying there with your exposed belly and having the father of the baby on the one and your husband on
the other side."
"Scary picture, I know," I agree. "But I have another scary one, I tell you. I keep dreaming that this baby is born with blonde hair and blue eyes. To haunt me
for my whole life." I take a deep breath: "Willow, I really love that baby, but I'm not sure if I can stand a blonde-haired, blue-eyed miniature-Riley."
"I thought it's a girl," my red-headed friend asks.
"Most probably, yes, but not 100%. Anyway, then it's a little Rileyanna ... oh god," I groan.
"Buffy are you okay," Willow reaches over te table and grabbs my hand.
I nod: "Yeah. It was just the scary picture and then the baby kicked pretty hard
the same time." I smile to assure her I'm alright. "Maybe the picture got into the baby's head as well and it's just afraid to be born blond and blue-eyed
Besides it's way too early for this. Another month to go. Another month ..." I trail off and blush furiously. I have lusty thoughts. I'm a bad, bad person and
I giggle inwardly.
The waitress prevents Willow from asking any further by bringing our drinks and salads. I pick the first piece with my fork when I feel another cramp. No, no, I
think. That can't be. I breath deeply. Once. Twice and relax. It's gone. Raising
my head again I look into my friend's concerned gaze. "I'm fine, Will," I assure
her again. "It's just hot and the baby is in kicking mode."
After a moment she nods: "Well it's your belly after all. Now, tell me, how's Angel doing? With the agency, I mean."
I tell her that they're doing well. Sometimes they also do cases in LA. They were
so well known there, that clients do find them in Sunnydale too. But Angel always
manages to be home in time and he tries not to be away too long during the nights.
"It sounds great," she says with a smile.
"Yeah great," I reply, my voice sounding anything but.
"Buffy," she takes my hand again. "This will all be over soon."
"No," I say desperately. "No, it won't." I feel tears welling in my eyes. "Don't
you see, he'll always be part of my, of our life, because he's the father of that
baby. And I have no right to slamm the door in his face. And the worst thing, Will, the very worst thing," I sob, "I used to like Riley. He was a friend and
now all I feel is that he's an annoying, hateful jerk. And I hate that I think that way. I want to see him as my friend, but I can't, because he's forced on me
now. Do you understand?" The tears are falling freely now.
"Yeah," she replies. "God, this is really all meddled up. I wish there was something I could do. But I went through all my spellbooks and found nothing."
She sighs loudly. "I'm so sorry."
"What did you look for in your spellbooks?," I ask couriously.
She shrugs: "I really don't know. I was hoping to find something to make Angel the father of that baby..." she trails off.
"That's so sweet of you," I tell her wiping my face. "But it's my fault. All of this. I made a mess and now I have to live with it. Uuuuuh," I groan when
another cramp runs through my belly. And suddenly I know for sure that this wasn't a
kick. "Uh, Willow," I look at her. "Could you drive me to the hospital?."
Her eyes widen with understanding and she jumps up. "Sure. Come. We'll call Angel
from the car. And Riley."
"Yes, Riley," I say my voice sounding annyoed again. "But I don't want him there
inside when the baby is born, do you understand." I grab Willow's arm. "Promise me you won't let him in. I don't want him to see me like that. When the baby is
born, I mean. Completely exposed. I only want Angel."
"I promise," she says quickly seeing my desperate gaze. "And now let's get you to
the hospital."
I close my eyes when she starts the car. And again that vision haunts me. Of a blonde, blue-eyed, miniature-Riley smiling up on me. I groan again and I'm not
sure it's because of the new cramp or the scary picture.
